[Short Essay]

It really makes me wonder.
Most have experienced this kind of feeling; loving someone. But it sure makes me wonder.
What is love?
Love is, when two people desire each other. Love is, when two people want to be together. Want to share every second; want to hold each other tight; just smile at each other and share this happiness. Or even the sadness, the burden. If two people want to give each other everything.
Does it really matter whom we love?
Why do rules forbid to love someone of your own blood, may it be brother, sister, cousin or parent? In fact, rules will always be able to hinder a relationship, but they'll never be able to fight feelings. Because the heart doesn't lie and can't be silenced.
So then, why is society forcing us to shut up our feelings, to shut up this desire? Why are we not allowed to love someone so much older than ourself? Why are people who love someone of their own sex looked down upon?
I wake up and I look at this boy I love. He's normal. My age, not connected to me by blood at all, not my gender, not even violent. I'm following all the rules there are to love in this world. But he still won't turn to look at me at all, won't love me back. I keep realizing that I wish I could wake up and be another person, peel off my skin to find someone else underneath. That's what love is. A coincidence. You can't tell your heart for just whom it should pound. It could be just anyone and you're just the prisoner of your feelings.
If it's forbidden to love who we want to, then just whom shall we love? Someone, we will never be able to give our heart completely because we're still hung up on someone else?
What's with that, society?
I think that even though there are lines you shouldn't cross, everyone shouldn't need to suppress their feelings because suppressing them is what truly corrupts people and makes them rotten.
Like hell I'm supporting EVERYTHING.
But you can't do nothing about the way you feel.
There's a really fitting quote I know: Love is like a kind of gold, it's hard to find and hard to hold.
So, if we find that one love we should hold on to it strongly no matter the circumstances.
Because is a wonderful warmth everyone should be allowed to experience.
So please do. Don't cross lines, but do love as much as you can. Every kind of love. Tell your best friend you love her once in a while. Tell your wife you love her over and over again. Tell your husband, your grandma, your parents, maybe even your teachers and persons you don't see often at all. Love is warmth. Warmth keep people alive.
Love keeps us alive and the world spinning.

“Using a Thermometer”

Many thermometers are thin glass tubes filled with a liquid.(1) Mercury and alcohol are often used

in thermometers because they remain in liquid form over a large temperature range.(2)

Thermometers can measure temperature because of a property called thermal expansion.(3)

Thermal expansion is the increase in volume of a substance because of an increase in temperature.

(4) As a substance’s temperature increases, its particles move faster and spread out.(5) So, there is more space between them, and the substance expands.(6) Mercury and alcohol expand by constant amounts for a given change in temperature.(7)

Introduction to the Study

Introduction

Today, many organizations and employees are experiencing the effects of stress on work performance.  The effects of stress can be either positive or negative.  What is perceived as positive stress by one person may be perceived as negative stress by another, since everyone perceives situations differently.  According to Barden (2001), negative stress is becoming a major illness in the work environment, and it can debilitate employees and be costly to employers.  Managers need to identify those suffering from negative stress and implement programs as a defense against stress. 

These programs may reduce the impact stress has on employees' work performance.

Statement of the Problem

The purpose of this study was to determine the negative effects of stress on employees and the methods employers use to manage employees' stress.

Significance of the Study

There are three primary groups that may benefit from this study.  The first group, consisting of employees in today's business organizations, may learn to identify ways that stress negatively affects their work performance.  Identifying the negative effects may enable them to take necessary action to cope with stress. By sharing this knowledge, employees can act as a vehicle to help management implement appropriate stress reduction programs.   The second group that may benefit from this study is employers who may gain insight as to how stress is actually negatively affecting.

Walter. This book is published by Regan Books an imprint of Harper Collins Publishers and is copyrighted 1996 by Christopher A. Darden.

Introduction of the Author

The book In Contempt was written by Christopher A. Darden. Chris Darden is famous for being one of the prosecuting attorneys in the court case The People vs. Simpson. He has worked hard his whole life to reach the status he has now achieved. He proved to America that even though he wasn't a high-priced private lawyer that he could present a well-thought out and planned case under the tremendous pressure he and the other prosecutors had to endure during the Simpson case.

Summary

I found this book to be very well thought out and well written. Most people would assume that this book was written with the intentions of making a quick-buck off the misfortune of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. I, however, do not believe this to be true. The way that the author speaks of the victims in the book and the way he spoke of them before and after the trial show that he really cared about the lives of these people that he didn't even know. He even went as far as to say in the book that this was the first case that affected him personally and emotionally.

As one may expect, the majority of this book is taken up with the Simpson case. Chapter’s two through six detail his life from birth, his childhood in a working class district of Richmond, California and his becoming a district attorney

of Los Angeles in 1981. Chapters two and three mostly consist of stories of him and his brother, Michael, stealing from local stores or his brothers’ drug deals. When Michael hit his mid-teens he started selling marijuana off the front porch of the house and Chris was his lookout. In return, he was told that he would be cut in on the action but never was. No matter what, Michael always told Chris never to use drugs.

Throughout the book Chris Darden refers to his brother as a good role model for him no matter what he did.

I feel the purpose of Chris Darden writing this book is to try to show the hardships he had to go through as a black man trying to become a lawyer. Also I feel that he is trying to reveal the truth behind what was happening in the Simpson case.
